Talking about the last T20 international match, it will be played on June 19. Keeping in view the T20 World Cup to be held in October-November, this series is very important for both the teams.
South Africa’s team last visited India in March 2020 and the first match of the ODI series played in Dharamsala was abandoned due to rain. After this match the series was cancelled due to covid-19.
The last complete T-20 series between the two teams was played in September 2019, when the South African team visited India for three T-20 and three Test series. After this, at the end of last year, Team India went to South Africa for a series of three Tests and 3 one day matches.
Most of the star players of South Africa are currently playing IPL in India. Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Dwayne Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Rassi van der Dussen, Lungi Ngidi and Anrique Nortje are part of different franchises. Surely, they will have pretty good assessment of playing conditions which they can use in the series.
CSA CEO, Mr Pholetsi Moseki commented:
“We are excited to add these fixtures to the Proteas men’s itinerary for the season. It is a massive white-ball season for our team, with an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia later this year and the ICC World Cup taking place in India next year.
“It goes without saying that game time is vital for our team as they look to get their combinations right.
“We look forward to supporting our men in a few weeks’ time in what promises to be an explosive and highly competitive series.”
