Bangladesh defeated South Africa by 38 runs in the first ODI at Centurion to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. This is Bangladesh’s first win on South African soil.

Bangladesh scored a big score of 314/7 with the help of Shakib Al Hasan’s innings of 77 runs while playing first. In response, the hosts were reduced to 276 in 48.5 overs.

Bangladesh shared a 95-run partnership with the opening pair of Tamim Iqbal (41) and Liton Das (50). However, the team lost its three wickets till the score of 124.

After this, Shakib and Yasir put on 115 runs for the fourth wicket. Bangladesh scored a big score despite the fall of wickets.

South Africa had a shaky start, within 8 overs they lost 3 wickets under the score of 36. David Miller and Der Dussen scored magnificent half-centuries but could not lead the team to victory.

For Bangladesh, Liton Das scored 50 runs in 67 balls and scored the fifth half-century of his ODI career. This is his first fifty against the Proteas team.

He has scored 1,608 runs in ODIs at an average of 33.50. Yasir Ali, on the other hand, scored 50 runs in 44 balls in his fourth ODI. He hit four fours and two sixes in his fifty.

Bangladesh captain Tamim scored 41 runs in 67 balls. Left-handed batsman Tamim has scored 7,738 runs in ODIs at an average of 36.50. He has overtaken Eoin Morgan (7,701) in terms of runs.

Veteran all-rounder Shakib scored 77 runs in 64 balls. He hit seven fours and three sixes in his innings. Shakib now has 6,737 runs to his name at an average of 37.84.

This was his 50th fifty in ODIs. He has become the second Bangladesh batsman after Tamim (51) to score 50 or more fifties. Shakib has so far scored 474 runs against South Africa. It was his fifth fifty against the Proteas.

South African batsman Rassie van der Dussen played a brilliant innings of 86 runs in 98 balls. He hit nine fours and a six. He scored the 11th century of his ODI career and the first half-century against Bangladesh.

David Miller scored 79 runs in just 57 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes. Miller scored the 17th half-century of his ODI career.

In ODI cricket, Bangladesh registered their first win against South Africa at their home. Earlier, the Bangladeshi team had to face nine defeats on Proteas soil.
