Australian cricketer Josie Dooley, who plays in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), recently suffered a stroke while on vacation in Hawaii. The 24-year-old underwent surgery following the stroke on April 15 and has since been receiving treatment in Brisbane after being deemed fit to fly.

According to a statement from the South Australian Cricket Association, Dooley experienced the stroke due to hydrocephalus while on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. She was airlifted to Honolulu for urgent neurosurgical treatment, where she spent 30 days in the hospital before being evacuated to Brisbane.

Following surgery, Dooley spent 18 days in the neurosciences ICU at Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu before being transferred to a neurosurgical ward for an additional 12 days. She is now back in Brisbane and continuing her recovery, with her family requesting privacy during this time.

Despite being uncapped at the international level, Dooley is a regular in the WBBL, having debuted for Brisbane Heat in the 2018-19 season and currently playing for Melbourne Renegades. She appeared in all 14 games in the most recent edition of the league.

Fans and teammates have shown their support for Dooley during this challenging time, and she is grateful for the love and encouragement she has received. Her progress in recovery is ongoing, and she remains focused on getting back to full health to return to the cricket field.
