Sri Lanka Economic Crisis: Sri Lankan cricketers Sangakkara, Jayawardene and others pay for their country in hard times; Check

Former captain and current consultant coach of Sri Lanka men’s senior team, Men’s Under-19 and Sri Lanka A team, Mahela Jayawardene, as well as Kumar Sangakkara, Bhanuka Rajapakse and Vanindu Hasaranga, who are in IPL.

These people expressed their concern over the recent protests and the government’s attempts to suppress people’s rights to protest by imposing emergency laws and curfews.

Mahela wrote in an Instagram post, I am saddened to see the emergency law and curfew in Sri Lanka.

The government cannot ignore the needs of those who have every right to protest.  It is not acceptable to prescribe people who do this and I am very proud of the brave Sri Lankans and lawyers.

Those who ran to their rescue. True leaders are the masters of mistakes. It is very important here to protect the people of our country united in their suffering.

These problems are man-made and can be fixed by the right, qualified people.  The few people controlling its economy.

The country has lost the confidence of the people and should stand up. We need a good team to give faith and confidence to the country.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals head coach Sangakkara supported the protesting Sri Lankans justifying their struggle. Sangakkara wrote on Instagram, that Sri Lankans are going through the most difficult times imaginable.

It is heartbreaking to see the despair of people and families. Because they struggle to make it through and each day gets harder for them. People are raising their voices and asking what is the solution.
