Sri Lanka Gains Momentum With Series Victory, Bangladesh Fell Short
Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh 1:0 in the two-match Test series. The first match of the series ended in a draw. Sri Lankan legend Angelo Mathews was the man of the series of the series, who played a brilliant innings of 199 runs in the first match and scored 145 not out in the second match. Simultaneously, Asith Fernando took ten wickets in the second match of the series.
Sri Lanka is excited by this win and will move forward with a lot of positive energy. From next month, Sri Lanka will play Test series with the Australian team at their home. With this significant win, Sri Lanka have moved up to fourth place in the World Test Championship and Bangladesh are one place above England at eighth. Before Sri Lanka’s victory, Pakistan was in fourth place.
Earlier Sri Lanka had played a Test series in India and they had to face defeat. It is important to see here that both the teams were young and Bangladesh played good cricket although both the innings of the second match had a disappointing start. In the first innings, Liton Das and Musfiqar Rahim took over Bangladesh’s innings when the team lost its legs on the small score of 25 runs.
Something similar happened in the second innings as well, Bangladesh had lost the fourth wicket in the form of Mominal Haq on the score of 23 runs. Then, when Rahim got out on the score of 55 runs, the whole team played under pressure and eventually the entire innings was reduced to 169 runs. Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan played half-centuries but could only take the lead of 29 runs which Sri Lanka made in 3 overs without losing any wicket.
Rahim and Liton Das had scored 175 and 141 in the first innings. In reply, Karunaratne and Fernando gave a solid start, both of whom put on 95 runs for the first wicket. Chandimal scored 124 runs in the middle order and Mathews scored 145 not out, giving Sri Lanka a 141-run lead.
Sri Lanka has lot of potential but they scarcely convert it into momentum. In this series, they did and will like to continue with it throughout the World Test Championship.
