Melbourne Stars vs Brisbane Heat

The 51st match of the Big Bash League will have Melbourne Stars take on Brisbane Heat at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

The Stars haven’t lived up to their billing in the tournament

The Melbourne Stars currently have 5 wins to their name in 12 matches and find themselves at number six on the points table. Due to various reasons, the Stars haven’t lived up to their billing in the tournament. After beating Melbourne Renegades by 6 wickets, they lost Adelaide Strikers by 23 runs in the last game.

Adelaide Strikers managed to score 155 runs after batting first against the Stars. For the latter, Rainbird bowled exceptionally well for his 2 for 25 in 4 overs, while Hinchliffe picked 2 for 21 in 3 overs. Zampa went for 35 runs in his four overs without taking any wicket.

In pursuit of the total, Melbourne Stars didn’t get off to a great start as they kept losing wickets at short intervals. The likes of Joe Clarke (9 off 11), Glenn Maxwell (16 off 10), Marcus Stoinis (1 off 4), and Beau Webster (8 off 11) got out without making a significant contribution with the bat.

Brisbane Heat are sitting at second from the bottom of the points table

Hilton Cartwright later played a valuable knock of 49 runs in just 35 balls, however, he lacked support from the other end. Melbourne Stars, in the end, could only manage to score 139 runs in the second innings, thus falling 23 runs short of the target.

On the other hand, Brisbane Heat are sitting at second from the bottom of the points table. They have had a poor campaign, having managed to win only 3 matches out of 11. Brisbane Heat are coming into the game on the back of three consecutive losses. They suffered a 71-run defeat in their last game at the hands of Adelaide Strikers.

Batting first, Adelaide Strikers scored 161 runs in the first innings. Will Prestwidge picked 2 for 34 in 4 overs, but other than that, none of the bowlers made an impact for The Heat. In reply, Chris Lynn and Co. were bowled out for a paltry 90-run total. Chris Lynn scored 7 off 7 balls, while Ben Duckett top-scored with 24 off 18. Brisbane Heat would be hoping to secure a win against Melbourne Stars and get themselves back to winning ways.
