Stefan Savic, Caused Disgraceful Scenes at the end of Atletico Madrid’s Defeat.
Disgraceful scenes majorly caused by Stefan Savic and police storming Atletico Madrid’s tunnel ruined Manchester City’s advancement to the Champions League semi-finals.
Former City defender Stefan Savic chased Jack Grealish inside the tunnel and attacked the substitute after the final whistle on Wednesday night’s second leg at the Wanda Metropolitano.
As he rushed down the tunnel after City’s goalless draw guaranteed a semi-final date with Real Madrid, Pep Guardiola was pelted with bottles from the bleachers.
After a challenge on Phil Foden that triggered a fight in one corner of the ground, Atletico central defender Felipe was sent off. Savic’s rage broke out when Felipe’s hack left the forward in a heap, and he pulled the forward back onto the pitch before seeming to headbutt Raheem Sterling.
During the brawl, Savic and Grealish exchanged words, with the former yanking Grealish’s hair, but the antagonism increased in the tunnel. On a humiliating night for the Spanish champions, four local police officers dressed in riot gear raced down to the changing rooms.
In a video circulating online, Marcos Llorente was seen throwing an object towards Aymeric Laporte in the tunnel area, while there appeared to be a physical altercation later. There also were reports of objects being thrown at members of the opposing camps.
Guardiola said, ‘I have nothing to say.’ ‘Don’t bring up referees. Alternatively, the adversaries. That’s all. Everyone saw the activities. I don’t have anything to say. We eat dinner before getting ready for the FA Cup semi-final.’
‘With these people in this stadium, it’s always challenging.’ It’s a high praise for the players. We gave it our all. These are the kinds of circumstances we have to deal with. We can’t expect to be able to make everything perfect against Spain’s champions. ‘My opponent was extremely talented.’
City dominated the first half but found it difficult to keep up with Atletico after the break. But they hung in there, maintaining a fourth consecutive clean sheet in the competition during a tumultuous quarter-final finish.
