Tottenham player Steven Bergwijn is looking to secure more regular minutes elsewhere after a disappointing 2021-22 campaign.

A little about the topic

The Dutch footballer has admitted he is desperate for a summer transfer amid reports that Ajax are interested in his services. Steven originally arrived at Tottenham from PSV in January 2020 in a £27m deal and has since scored eight goals in 83 appearances for the club. Steven Bergwijn has struggled for consistency in north London and after making only four Premier League starts in 2021-22, he is now looking to move on to a new challenge.

What did Steven Bergwijn say?

The player still has three years left on his Spurs contract but wants to leave this summer to start playing regular football again. Steven Bergwijn, being on international duty, said that he is now in Oranje, and then they will look. According to Steven, it would be nice if there was clarity soon. Bergwijn just has to go play. But according to Steven, he wants to leave the Spurs, that’s for sure.

Steven also revealed that he was blocked from leaving Tottenham after the player insisted he would be ready to join the club outside of the Champions League. The Dutchman said it wasn’t even a top priority. Although it would be nice. The important thing is that he is going to play.

The Dutch international says he was not allowed to leave Tottenham in the winter and had no problems back then. For the past few months, he has hardly been cared for there. Now Steven wants to play somewhere weekly.

A return to the Eredivisie with Ajax has been discussed as the most likely next step for Steven and he admits he may have to prove his worth again at home before potentially getting a chance at a bigger European club further down the line. When asked about the possibility of returning to Holland, Steven Bergwijn said that it could be, yes. The point is his situation now, it should be different.
