Steven Gerrard Disputes Claim about Aston Villa taking on Man City in Title Decider
Aston Villa’s final-day Premier League trip to league leaders Manchester City may see the former Liverpool captain play a key role in the Reds’ championship chances.
Steven Gerrard, the manager of Aston Villa, has dismissed claims concerning his team’s last Premier League matches against Burnley and Manchester City.
Burnley is fighting for their Premier League survival, while City must win on the last day to earn their fourth Premier League title in five seasons. However, Gerrard has dismissed claims that the games are more important for the opponent than for his team.
Villa has had a disappointing season, finishing in 14th place in the Premier League with only two victories in their last nine games. Both of those victories — against Norwich and Burnley – came against relegation-threatened teams.
While the Midlands club is not in relegation trouble this season, Gerrard is certain that he will be in the same situation next season, he dismissed accusations that these games were unimportant to the team.
When asked if these games were not as significant for Villa as the opposition at his pre-match press conference, he said, “No, they are not.” Maybe that’s true from their perspective, but I’m not in a relegation or title fight; I’m the manager of Aston Villa, and these are both games in which we can pick up three crucial points. We’ll have a packed house, with 20,000 admirers on the waiting list to see us. “Winning both games is my duty.”
“We are always learning, we learn more about these guys every day,” the Villa manager stated, referring to the different challenges in both matches. The most essential thing for us is to concentrate on ourselves and conclude the season with two excellent outcomes. We must strive to enhance our league standing.”
