Dirk Kuyt believes that Steven Gerrard’s natural leadership means he will do an excellent job as Liverpool manager and the Dutchman would be delighted to be his assistant at Anfield.

Leadership skills

Gerrard roars the success of his first management job after leading the Rangers to their first Scottish title in 10 years. His title win has fueled speculation that he may one day take the reins at Liverpool and Kuyt – which Gerrard invited to spend time training with him at the Rangers – thinks he’s specifically for the job. Kuyt said: “I feel like his leadership qualities will take him very far as a manager. I think it would be great if Steven Gerrard would continue to manage Liverpool. He is from Liverpool and has spent his entire playing career at Anfield. “I always got along very well with him and we still have contact from time to time. “Steven has said some great things about me over the last couple of years, we have a special bond. He doesn’t have to talk about me, but he talks anyway.” “It made me proud of our connection and it was great to go to see him work with his team in Scotland.”

Desire to become a manager

Kuyt became a fan favorite for six years at Liverpool, and retired in 2018. He hasn’t moved into management yet, but says he is going to make his first move soon. “I have a desire to become a manager soon, and I am considering options,” he said. “But there are exceptions to taking the path as assistant manager, and being close to Stevie would be one of them. “If he wanted me to be his assistant, I would really like it. In principle, I see myself as a head coach going to work, but, as I say, there are always exceptions. “The most beautiful moment I see is when Steven gets the job and can officially call himself the manager of Liverpool.” “And he would do a great job. As he did at the Rangers, he will have a process of doing things step by step.”
