Stuart Broad has received an official reprimand from the ICC for having done something that hurts the spirit of the game during the Headingley Test match. One demerit point was added to his record for a code of conduct violation during the Headingley Test, which England won by seven wickets.

Stuart Broad was charged with a breach of Article 2.9, which relates to “an unreasonable and/or dangerous manner of delivery of a ball to a player in a more rapid manner. The incident occurred during the 89th over of New Zealand’s second innings, when Broad caught the ball in his followthrough and threw it swiftly towards Daryl Mitchell while the New Zealand batsman did not leave his crease.

The violation was tantamount to “reckless fielding”, in which Carlos Brathwaite and the Birmingham Bears were handed 5 runs during a recent Vitality Blast game (playing conditions for international cricket are different from those for the Blast). Carlos Brathwaite also batted and bowled fast which hit his thai pad.

Stuart Broad admitted a Level One offense and accepted the ban proposed by the ICC match referee David Boon at Headingley.

It counts as Broad’s second offense within a 24-month period, having previously received a demerit point for directing an “inappropriate word” at Yasir Shah during the 2020 Old Trafford Test against Pakistan. Accruing four or more demerit points within 24 months can result in a ban for one Test or two limited overs matches.

Broad, taking a wicket in New Zealand’s second innings at Leeds, finished the series with 12 at 35.25, with England easily chasing down the target of 296 on the fifth day and chasing over 250 for the third time in a row that was in a Test match. Never happened before. In this match we saw some good and commendable sportsmanship greetings. New Zealand is considered to be the most decent team in the cricket world and their players are never found behaving like this.
