Ahead of the World Championship final, which started today at the Oval stadium, Australia is being touted as favourites over No. 1 ranked test team India. When some of the former cricket legends were asked about the outcome of the match, most of them said Australia would win. Ricky Ponting, Wasim Akram, and Ross Taylor agreed that the Australians have a slight edge over the Indian team. Ponting even said that “India will be tired after IPL” The batting legend of India, Sunil Gavaskar, has completely shut down this claim and also rubbished Ponting’s claim about India being tired after IPL.

Gavaskar countered Ponting’s remarks
Ponting took his own country’s side for the WTC final not once but twice, and the only clarification he gave was that the Indians would be tired after the recently finished IPL season compared to Australia, which had only fewer players in the tournament, so they would play with a fresh mind.
Gavaskar countered Ponting’s remark and said, “As far as preparation is concerned, the interesting thing is that some Australian players have not done anything because they haven’t been playing much cricket. At least all the Indian players were playing competitive cricket in the IPL, so coming in fresh without any cricket is this better than coming in a little tired after playing a lot of cricket ?  There are lots of factors that could be seen this week.

The former batsman shut down Ponting’s claim
Yesterday, in an interview, Gavaskar not only shut down Ponting’s “favourite claim,” but he also dismissed his comment on the Indian team needing match practice before big matches.
He said, “I would give the edge to India, and I do not agree with the fact that the pitch conditions are in Australia’s favour or the fact that resting some Australian players is going to help. “Even a player who was not playing in the IPL, Pujara, was playing county cricket and scoring hundreds for fun, so yes, India is in a better position.”he concluded

The skipper also gave a blunt reply
Even Rohit Sharma replied bluntly at a conference in London about Ponting’s claim on Australia being in advantage and said that it is his own point of view and a lot of former cricketers and experts give their opinion before big matches.
The skipper also showed confidence in his team and said that they know how to handle the pressure because the players have been in that position many times. So the Time will tell which team will use the conditions better.
