Suryakumar Yadav scored 39 runs in the opening T20I of the three-match series against England at Edgbaston. The right-handed batsman played a crucial innings and helped India cross the 100-run mark. His 39 runs left behind Virender Sehwag, who had 394 runs in 19 T Twenty matches.
En route to his innings of 39 runs, Suryakumar became the latest batsman to break the 400-run mark in the shortest format. The right-handed batsman now has 405 runs in 17 T20 Internationals. During his crucial innings, Suryakumar surpassed former India captain Virender Sehwag and former stand-in captain, Ajinkya Rahane in the list of highest run-scorers for the Men in Blue in T20Is.
Suryakimar now has 405 runs and is followed by Sehwag and Ajikanya Rahane. Both the batsmen have 394 runs to their name. While Sehwag retired from the game in 2015, Rahane is an active player but his chances of making a comeback in T20Is are slim.
The list is topped by Rohit Sharma, who has scored 3396 runs in 128 matches. He is followed by Virat Kohli, who has scored 3387 runs in the shortest format. Former India captain MS Dhoni scored 1617 runs in 98 matches.
Suryakumar made his T20I debut against England in 2021. He has been a regular member of the team since then and was also selected for the 2021 T20 World Cup. The right-handed batsman has retained his spot in the white-ball teams since IPL 2020 and will look to convert his starts into big scores from the next match.
Apart from Suryakumar, other batsmen also played their part in the total of 198. Rohit Sharma gave the team a positive start by scoring 24 runs in 14 balls before being caught by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler off Moeen Ali. Deepak Hooda continued his form and scored 33 off 17. He was dismissed by Tymal Mills. Hardik Pandya scored 51 runs in 33 balls to reach 198.
