Sydney Sixers Wins 9 Match In A Row Against Melbourne Stars

Talk about drama and there is Big Bash League. Controversial calls from the umpires, players getting intimidated, it’s all happening in Big Bash League. In midst of this, Sydney Sixers have defeated Melbourne Stars for the 9th time in a row. Yes, it’s 9 times in a row which has never happened before in the BBL.

After winning the toss at the MCG, Sixers’ captain invited the Stars to bat first. Melbourne Stars have the batting prowess but it has often failed than succeeded in putting up big totals. At the halfway stage with Rogers and Cartwright at the crease, the score was assumed to reach over 180.

Some fine balling and a wonderful catch by Chris Jordan allowed Sydney Sixers to make comeback. After Thomas Rogers was dismissed for 48, all response was on Marcus Stoinis’ shoulders who came to bat and took his time before going all berserk against under pressure Sixers’ bowling attack.

Marcus Stoinis Went All Guns Blazing

When Hilton Cartwright got dismissed for 36 by highest wicket taker of BBL Sean Abott, Stars looked in trouble and 165 looked out of reach. But two surge overs were left to be taken full account of and Stoinis did exactly same.

Stoinis brought his fifty in mere 25 balls giving Stars a chance to post 180 plus on a double paced wicket of the MCG. In two surge overs, Stoinis accumulate over 32 runs and out of a sudden, the Sixers looked helpless keen to chase over 180.

On the other hand, Beau Webster couldn’t find rhythm with bat and scored only 8 off 10 balls before losing his wicket to Abbott. Stoinis scored at over 12 runs for continuous three overs but in the end, Abott has the last laugh. He was dismissed when he miscued a ball over covers. The team scored 173 runs which could have been 180 but still, it was defendable total knowing how big boundaries are at the MCG.

Sydney Sixers Having Perfect Start

Chasing 174, no team could ask for more perfect start. Sixers smashed 25 runs off first two overs and from there on Melbourne Stars got a bit of hold and squeezed Sixers’innings. Nathan Coulter Nile sent Josh Phillipe back to pavillion when the youngster looked struggling throughout his small innings.

But what about Englishman James Vince, he was at best of his game scoring 91 runs off 59 balls, staying at the crease till the end. The partnership was key in chasing such a total and Sixers’ produced three 40 runs partnership which plummeted the game in their favour.

Last Over Drama Was Too Much, Jordan Silk Looks Frustrated

The Controversial Call Of The Third Umpire

In the 17th over against Boult, Vince went big and banged two back to back sixes which made everything possible for the Sixers. Zampa bowled a 11 runs over leaving 11 runs in the final over to defend for Luke Wood. The first two balls were on target as he gave only three runs. Then came the deciding ball which was pumped over the bowler’s head for six by Jordan Silk.

The drama came on the third ball when Silk was given out for caught behind by the third umpire but as Silk watched it on big screen, there was definitely daylight gap between bat and ball. It was a controversial call but Jordan Silk could do nothing but depart after hitting 15 off 10 balls.

Sydney Sixers needed two in two balls and it was veteran Dan Christian on the crease who is always unforgivable to bowlers. He flicked the ball on pads for a boundary and sealed the match for Sydney Sixers in nonchalant style.
