Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib penalized for breaching ICC Code of Conduct during T20 World Cup match

Bangladesh fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been penalized for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Bangladesh’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Group D match against Nepal. The incident occurred at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown on Sunday when Tanzim approached Nepal batter Rohit Paudel in an aggressive manner and made inappropriate physical contact after bowling a delivery in the third over of Nepal’s innings.

As a result of his actions, Tanzim has received one demerit point and has been fined 15 percent of his match fee. This marks Tanzim’s first offence within a 24-month period. The charge against Tanzim was brought under Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to inappropriate physical contact with players, support personnel, umpires, match referees, or any other person during an international match.

The on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, along with third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena, leveled the charge against Tanzim. The bowler admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, thus avoiding the need for a formal hearing.

Tanzim’s actions have drawn attention to the importance of maintaining sportsmanship and respect on the cricket field. As players continue to compete in the T20 World Cup, it serves as a reminder of the need to uphold the integrity of the game and adhere to the standards set by the ICC Code of Conduct.
