Taskin Ahmed Eyes Test Return After Break

Taskin Ahmed, the pace bowler from Bangladesh, who took a break from Test cricket, is considering a return to the five-day format if he can manage his workload effectively. Bangladesh Cricket Board physio Bayjedul Islam has expressed confidence in Taskin’s ability to make a comeback to Test cricket.

Taskin had requested the BCB to exclude him from Test selection due to a shoulder injury, as he wanted to focus on white-ball cricket. However, after participating in the T20 World Cup and the Lanka Premier League, the 29-year-old fast bowler is now aiming to return to Test cricket.

Having last played a Test match against Afghanistan in June 2022, Taskin was part of the national preparatory camp for the upcoming series against Pakistan starting on August 21.

Workload Management Crucial for Taskin’s Return

Bayjedul highlighted that Taskin’s recent focus on T20 cricket has limited his long spell bowling, which is crucial in Test matches. However, if Taskin continues his rehabilitation and workouts, he can make himself available for Tests by managing his shoulder injury effectively.

Despite rain disrupting the opening day’s preparation, the national team’s fitness levels have shown improvement. The team management plans to conduct a running test in the coming days, depending on weather conditions and player availability.

Bayjedul emphasized the importance of players meeting the strength test benchmark and working on their skills as they prepare for the upcoming series against Pakistan.
