TATA IPL 2022: 5 players who can win Orange Cap this season in IPL

The 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to start on March 26. This time instead of eight, 10 teams will take part in the tournament.

Every time the eyes of the fans are definitely on the two awards. The first is the orange cap and the second is the purple cap. The player with the most runs is given the Orange Cap and the bowler with the most wickets is given the Purple Cap.

Having 10 franchises can see a tremendous fight for the Orange Cap in the season. Last year, Ruturaj Gaikwad won the Orange Cap by defeating fellow opener Fap Du Plessis by a narrow margin.

Now this time it is to be seen which player scores the most runs in the tournament. For this, we have shortlisted five of those players.

Virat Kohli:

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has managed to score more than 400 runs every time in the last four seasons. This time there is no extra pressure of captaincy on him.

In such a situation, Kohli can prove to be more dangerous. 33-year-old Virat had scored the most runs in 2016. Then he scored 973 runs in 16 innings at an average of 81.08.

He had scored four centuries during this period. Fans are expecting the same kind of batting from Kohli once again.

Ishan Kishan:

This player included in the team of Mumbai Indians can bat explosively against any bowling attack. The franchise did not retain Ishan Kishan but bought him at auction for a huge amount.

This left-handed batsman can prove to be dangerous with Rohit Sharma in the opening. Mumbai has bought Kishan for Rs 15.25 crore. Kishan had scored 516 runs in the 2020 season and 241 runs came off his bat in the last season.

Ruturaj Gaikwad:

Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad showed a glimpse of his potential at the end of the 2020 season. He scored three consecutive half-centuries.

After this, he captured the Orange Cap in the last season. He scored 635 runs in 16 matches at an average of 45.35, just two runs more than his teammate Faf du Plessis.

In Suresh Raina’s absence, Gaikwad will have additional responsibility. He would like to score more runs this time as well.

Shreyas Iyer:

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer will look to make an immediate impact on his new franchise. The Mumbai batsman has so far scored 2375 runs in 87 IPL matches at an average of 31.66.

He scored 519 runs in the 2020 season, which was his best performance so far in the IPL. He was adjudged Player of the Series in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka last month. They would like to continue their excellent form in this tournament as well.

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul, the captain of the new franchise Lucknow Supergiants, is one of the most obvious candidates to win the Orange Cap this season.

The former Punjab Kings opener has scored over 600 runs in three of the last four seasons. Won the Orange Cap in 2020. KL Rahul scored 626 runs in 13 innings last season at an average of 62.60. Everyone is expecting big innings from Rahul this time.
