After the reduction in Corona cases, the board wants to organize playoffs on different grounds. The final is almost certain to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is constantly scrutinizing the dates and grounds for the playoffs of the 15th season of the IPL.
After 70 matches of the league round, there are four matches in the playoffs. After the reduction in Corona cases, the board wants to organize playoffs on different grounds.
The final is almost certain to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Before the IPL, when the schedule was announced, it was informed that 70 matches of the league round will be held in two cities of Maharashtra, Mumbai and Pune.
There have been 12 matches of the league round so far. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, apart from Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium have got the hosting.
A senior BCCI official told a sports website, “We are yet to finalize the venues. Discussions are taking place at many places and the COVID situation is under control.

Not a single corona case has been reported before or in the bio-bubble. This is a positive sign. We will finalize the locations by next week.”
He further added, “Many things have to be looked into in making a schedule. Especially in the time of COVID, we have to be more careful.
Air travel is the first and biggest challenge because we have seen cases of covid coming through it. Now it seems that air travel is possible, but nothing has been decided yet.
We will take a week or two to take a final call. By then the situation will become more clear.”
On May 29, the final match can be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Qualifier-2 can also be held on the same ground.
Before that either Lucknow or Kolkata can be selected for Qualifier-1 and Eliminator match. The Women’s T20 Challenger is likely to be held on 23 and 24 May.
The first qualifier is on 24th May, the Eliminator on 25th May and the second qualifier on 27th May.
