Teddy Sheringham claims Man United should have appointed  Mauricio Pochettino as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement

Conte was connected with the Old Trafford post before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired in November. But he had already accepted the Tottenham job before the United job became available.

Gary Neville declared after United’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool in October that the Italian was not the ‘ideal fit’ for the club. This is an assessment that many have disagreed with in recent months.

But Sheringham, the right-former back’s United and England teammate, said that Conte was the type of manager Tottenham needed while keeping an open mind on prospective United manager Erik ten Hag.

Sheringham stated, “He is the ideal match for Tottenham”.

‘The supporters adore him, as evidenced by the way they sang his name the other night [in a 1-0 win against Burnley]”. “I hope he thinks so, too.”

‘His discipline, his devotion to Tottenham, and the drive-in his make-up are all precisely what the Spurs players require right now.’

‘I don’t believe he would have been the right fit for Man United at the moment.”

“They needed someone like Pochettino, who, like Pep Guardiola, takes the game to the opponent”.

“I believed he would have been ideal for Manchester United”.

“But  just because you’re a talented manager doesn’t imply you’ll be the ideal match for a specific team.’

Conte appears to have gotten Spurs back into the Champions League. This after triumphs in the north London derby and defeats to Burnley and Arsenal.

But the team has not won a trophy since 2008, and with Man City’s signing of Erling Haaland, Harry Kane’s future at the Etihad Stadium appears to be uncertain.
