Criminal Charges Dropped
It is reported that Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag recently called suspended forward Mason Greenwood after a number of criminal charges against him were dropped. Mason Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of attempted rape, assault, and coercive and controlling behavior. However, on February 2, the Crown Prosecution Service found that there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction and all charges were dropped.
Suspension and Internal Investigation
United suspended Greenwood as soon as the accusations came to light and is currently conducting its own internal investigation. The club is said to have had minimal contact with Greenwood throughout the process.According to the report, Ten Hag contacted Greenwood after the charges were dropped and checked on the physical and mental wellbeing of the player. Ten Hag was reportedly pleased that the charges against Greenwood had been dropped. The report also states that Mason Greenwood appreciated the gesture as contact until that point had been through third parties.
A Look at the Current Status and Potential Outcome
It is important to note that the call from Ten Hag does not necessarily mean that Greenwood will be re-introduced into the squad immediately. United’s women’s team has reportedly expressed discomfort at the prospect of Greenwood’s return, and members of the men’s team are said to share the same sentiment. The situation with Mason Greenwood remains uncertain as United continues its internal investigation. The club, as well as the player, will likely wait for the outcome of the investigation before making any decisions regarding his future with the team.
