Erik ten Hag has wished Jadon Sancho well at Borussia Dortmund despite their public spat at Manchester United.
Jadon Sancho completed a loan return to Borussia Dortmund on Thursday afternoon. He has penned a deal until the end of the season, while there is no option to buy clause.
The German side are set to pay around €4m (£3.4m) which includes a loan fee and a partial contribution to Sancho’s lofty wages. He could potentially make his second debut for the club in Saturday’s Bundesliga showdown with Darmstadt.
Ten Hag has now spoken out on the deal and has wished the winger good fortune back in Germany. Speaking in a press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Tottenham, the Dutchman said: “I hope he’s doing well. So I wish him the best of good luck. That’s it. I hope he’s doing well and he’ll be a success.”
Ten Hag was then asked again about Sancho’s move back to Dortmund but this time opted not to answer. “I replied [to the previous question],” he said. “I think it’s enough.”
Sancho appears unlikely to have a future at Man United while Ten Hag is the manager. The Dutchman criticised Sancho for his poor displays in training, something that the winger disputed on social media.
Ten Hag demanded an apology from Sancho, something that was not forthcoming. That led to Sancho being exiled from the first team and he has not played for the club in nearly five months.
Speaking after completing his return to Dortmund, Sancho said: “When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like ‘coming home’. I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge”.
“I can’t wait to see my team-mates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”
In all, Sancho has made 82 appearances for United since completing a big-money move from Dortmund in the summer of 2021. He has scored just 12 goals for the club in that time.
His contract at Old Trafford runs for another two-and-a-half years. It was previously suggested that the club’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was ‘open’ to terminating the rest of his deal with the Red Devils in an effort to get his wages off the books.
