Petr Cech is the latest figure behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge to vacate his post after the takeover of the club.
What did Petr Cech say?
The Blues have confirmed that the former Chelsea goalkeeper is due to leave his role as the club’s technical and performance advisor on 30 June. Petr Cech was to hold talks with Todd Boehly and the club’s board while he contemplated his future in west London. Petr has now decided to leave, becoming the latest figure to cut ties with the Blues as they enter a new era – with chairman Bruce Buck and transfer boss Marina Granovskaia having already confirmed their departures.
The former footballer, who returned to the Blues in June 2019 after announcing his retirement from the game, told the club’s official website of his decision to retire, a huge privilege to have played this role at Chelsea for the past three years. With the club under new ownership, Petr Cech says he feels now is the right time for him to step aside.
Cech is pleased that the club is now in a great position with new owners and is confident in his future success both on and off the pitch. Todd Boehly, chairman and co-owner, added that Cech is an important member of the Chelsea family. Boehly says they understand his decision to leave and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and their community. They wish him all the best.
Achievements of Petr Cech at Chelsea
In his role away from the field, Petr provided advice and guidance on all matters of football and performance – with Abramovich calling him into his regime during the Russian billionaire’s reign as owner. Roman Abramovich was also the man who sanctioned the signing of Cech when he first moved to Stamford Bridge in 2004.
Petr was part of an exciting makeover at the Blues under Mourinho, and was the No. 1 club for 10 years before eventually eluding Thibaut Courtois in club order, making 494 appearances for the club in total. During this time he has won four PL titles along with four FA Cups, three League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.
