Jules Kounde came close to moving to Stamford Bridge last year, only to have his club veto the transfer.

What did Cruz de Andres say about Jules Kounde?

The Sevilla CEO admits the club will struggle to hold on to the French defender’s Blues transfer target this summer. The Liga side have turned down an offer from Chelsea to take the defender to Stamford Bridge in 2021. But after another impressive year in Spain, it seems that Jules is set to go far in the near future.

Sevilla general manager Jose Maria Cruz de Andres said the Kounde case is very similar to that of Diego Carlos. According to Cruz de Andres, not in timing because they got offers for Jules in the last two seasons, but always on the summer market.

They rejected because they thought this player could improve his performance. It was better to wait because the market was oppressive at the time. They thought that waiting for a while would help them get more money.

Again, the player De Andres is sure respects Sevilla FC. Cruz de Andres says that Jules Kounde is happy with them. In the case of Jules, it’s not a matter of money. It is a matter of Kounde’s desire to play in a more competitive team than Sevilla FC.

Will there be competition for Jules?

The Blues have put plans in place to return for Jules’ signing before completing the takeover of the club’s Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital consortium at the end of May. The Sevilla general manager is aware of Chelsea’s interest but says some of Europe’s other elite clubs will also be keen on a deal for Jules Kounde.

Cruz de Andres added he is confident that Kounde is a player who is attractive to teams like Bayern Munich, Barca, Chelsea and these types of teams. Jules Kounde wants to play in a more competitive team. This is the same case they had years ago with Lenglet. He was very happy, but he thought after playing a few years at Sevilla FC he was ready to go to Barca.

According to Cruz de Andres, the first time they received an offer for it was the season before it was passed. De Andres says that Clément Lenglet and his father told them that they didn’t to leave Seville at that time because they preferred to stay here and play a lot of matches.
