Portuguese footballer Hugo Viana hasn’t ruled out anything when it comes to a potentially stunning coup for Cristiano Ronaldo, but he admits a deal in 2022 is unlikely.

What did Viana say about Cristiano Ronaldo?

Portuguese player Ronaldo has made a return to his spiritual home by returning to the Red Devils from the Bianconeri in the summer of 2021, but the door remains open for him to return to his Sporting roots. Cristiano Ronaldo took his first tentative steps towards greatness when he burst onto the senior scene in Lisbon, with his undeniable potential spotted by Ferguson back in 2003.

After spending the better part of 20 years cementing a legacy as one of the best talent to ever play the game, speculation is once again building on a potential retracement of the steps back to where it all began.

Questions have been raised about how long the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will hang on at Old Trafford, with Man Utd surviving the testing of the 2021-22 campaign but still having 12 months to work on his contract. This makes it difficult for Sporting to consider a deal at this stage, but Hugo Viana said when questioned about an interest in Cristiano Ronaldo that he doesn’t think it will be possible now, but they never know.

Viana thinks Cristiano Ronaldo can decide where he can go, but they never know the future. Hugo doesn’t want to talk about it much because he thinks when they talk about Ronaldo it’s different. According to Hugo Viana, he thinks Cristiano has one year more contract, so whatever he decides will show.

“Ronaldo still has a lot left”

For now, amid speculation linking him to Bayern Munich and Chelsea, Cristiano remains tied to PL heavyweights who are crying for inspiration from somewhere. One of the greatest goalscorers of all time found a 24-goal target for Manchester United last season, with his own standards held up while many of those around him were vying for the spark.

Hugo thinks Cristiano still has a lot left in the tank, but he still has a role to play in a new era for Man Utd under incoming manager Erik ten Hag. Hugo Viana added that it was time for Man Utd to stabilize, to create a good spirit within the club.

Hugo thinks it’s not – he doesn’t know for sure – but what he can see from the outside is not what’s happening now. But Hugo thinks there’s always time to rearrange things. According to Viana, with players like Ronaldo, of course, there is a player who scores 20, 25 goals exactly in a season and it is very important to have this kind of player in your team.
