Some particular batters were brain freezed as the team team continued to tumble. Usman Khawaja played a lose shot where his only fault is carelessness in approch. Rest of them didn’t even had an approch. David Warner was clueless with the bat, he is trying to play the role he is not accustomed to.
The typical David Warner goes about his business in attacking way but he has changed his method. He was trying to be attentive to every delivery which is good but not with a defensive midnight. That is a poor sign when an experienced player like him plays in the hands of bowlers.
Travis Head is likely to replace Warner. This could be a worthy decision because Head has a better game plan than Warner at this stage. He could make a good impact with 60 odd runs at the top alongside Khawaja. That will relieve the middle order from the pressure of batting at 50 for 3.
If Australia can find rhythm at the top order, the concern of pitch will diminish. Usually, whichever team is in the backfoot, goes about considering pitch as a factor. No doubt, India is good adapting these conditions because they have played so much cricket on it.
Allowing ball to spin throughout only to read it was the cause of downfall of Australian batters. Instead of using hands to reach to the pitch of the ball, these batters allowed the ball to turn and spin, sometimes beating their off edge while at other, going through the gates.
This is absolutely uneducated way of playing test cricket. If it is spinning and turning, it will cause problems but Indian batters succeeded because they were cautious to know if it is going outside off stump, play it on back foot and if going in line, play it around its landing point.
That makes a big difference, there was nothing extraordinary about the track. Australian team got just blown out because they couldn’t free themselves from the fervour of spin. They were like “Oh! It’s spinning. How should I play it?” Not a professional way to look at things.
Marnus Labuschagne is the only batsman apart of Steve Smith who looked comfortable playing spin at front foot. Some of the players drew their pad forward to save their bat from getting an edge. The coach should look into this matter and inject some high class confidence in the team because attack is the best defence when it comes to test cricket.
