The Dutch side does not want to sell Antony and Manchester United are reluctant to meet their asking price.

Man Utd chasing Antony

The Red Devils have not given up on signing an Ajax player. The PL side are plotting one last attempt to land the winger, but the Dutch team are reluctant to let him go and have disappointed Manchester United with their demands. Man Utd followed Antony all summer and his agents traveled to Europe at the start of the transfer window to negotiate a deal. But the club’s previous offer of €60m fell far short of the figure Ajax are demanding for the 22-year-old.

Ajax are still holding on for €80m before they are willing to let the young player leave this summer. Plus, the club has no desire or need to sell him, having already sold Martinez to the Bianconeri, Sebastien Haller to Borussia Dortmund and Gravenberch to Bayern Munich for hefty fees. Man Utd are not ready to match Ajax’s current asking price, but they are willing to improve on their previous offer.

Remaining term of Antony’s contract with Ajax

The Brazilian striker joined the Eredivisie team from Sao Paulo in July 2020 and signed a five-year contract. Antony made 78 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 22 times. Sao Paulo will earn a significant portion of any transfer fee above €15m that the Dutch side receives from Antony.

A little about the topic

The Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag was itching to bring his former Ajax players with him to Old Trafford. Ten hag has already signed Lisandro Martinez and is also interested in Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong, who once played for him in the Dutch top flight. Erik has seen the Brazilian’s development firsthand and believes the player could be a PL star and a transfer risk worth taking.
