The Reds are ready to sign a six-year deal with Darwin Nunez
Darwin Nunez will be the most expensive signing in Liverpool history when he joins from Benfica.
A little about the topic
The Uruguayan forward is set to become the most expensive signing in Reds history after they agreed a deal with Benfica that could be worth up to £85m. Liverpool won an all-Europe transfer battle for Darwin Nunez, agreeing terms with both the Portuguese club and the player. The medical will happen on Monday and Darwin will sign at Anfield until 2028 – after which the Reds will turn their attention to signing Calvin Ramsay.
How much will it cost to transfer Darwin Nunez to Liverpool?
The deal taking the player to the PL will cost £64m up front, along with a potential £21m in extras. That would make the striker the most expensive signing in Reds history as they don’t skimp on reinforcements ahead of the eventual departures of Salah and Mane.
Only the formalities remain, including the medical, before Darwin is introduced as a Liverpool player with the club having beaten a host of other teams including the Red Devils to his signature.
The other big winner in the deal is Spanish club Almeria with former Darwin team owed 20 per cent of any profit Benfica receives. With Benfica signing him for €22 million in 2020, Almeria will owe a bonanza of at least €9 million.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his new man is as successful as his compatriot was on Merseyside as they realign their offensive line with Darwin joining January signing Luis Diaz at the Reds. Darwin has shown this season he is a goal machine, with 34 goals in the entire 2021-22 Lisbon Giants fight, including an incredible 26-28 mark in the Primeira Liga and six in the Champions League.
Who else is on target?
Liverpool will be looking to sign the Scottish right-back next as a backup to Alexander-Arnold’s preferred option. Young player Calvin Ramsay made 39 senior appearances for Aberdeen and if nine assists for the Scottish Premiership club last season. Aberdeen are said to want around £9m for one of their prized assets, but a transfer fee is unlikely to keep the Reds from chasing them.
