The situation

in the coming months a round of contacts will begin to get the support of the clubs again, although everything depends on the sentence of the European justice. Whether or not the Super League battle is over is up to the courts . Next December 15 is an important date in the process since it is the day on which the general counsel of the Court of Justice of the European Union will issue a first non-binding opinion on the conflict between the rebel clubs and UEFA. That day the triumph could begin to opt for one of the parties. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus accuse UEFA of having abused their dominant position by threatening them with sanctions after their first failed attempt to create the Super League. A favorable vote would be the first step for the three clubs to be legitimized to create a competition outside UEFA , something essential for other clubs to join the project led by Florentino Pérez. Even more so after the rejection caused by the first staging of the project last March and which led to the departure of nine clubs from it, including the six English ones.

The details

The ‘rebels’ have learned from their mistakes and in their next approaches they will propose to the rest of the clubs that they join the idea of creating a competition outside the UEFA Champions League, but leaving both the format and the distribution of income open, solidarity payments and, above all, the classification system that so upset the world of football in its first attempt. The three Superliga clubs believe that abandoning the permanent membership concept will remove the most unpopular measure that caused their failure last time and propose devising a new format under discussion with a larger number of clubs than previously involved.
