Joachim Low signaled to Thomas Muller that he reached the end of his international career
Thomas Müller is unlikely to be counted in the minds of Germany boss Joachim Low again, according to former international teammate Toni Kroos, despite Bayern Munich’s excellent club performance. The 30-year-old has spent much of the past decade as one of the German national team’s cornerstones. He guided them to success at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and top-four finishes in three other significant tournaments tenure the side. But he hasn’t played for his country since November 2018 in the Nations League. With Low signaling last year that Müller – as well as Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels – had reached the end of their international careers, vowing not to select them again.
The Germany boss wants to give space for younger players
Although Müller played a significant role in another season of Bayern’s triumph. He helped the club achieve domestic success and the Champions League crown. Thomas was still found himself frozen out of the international set-up. Ahead of Germany’s Nations League match with Switzerland, Real Madrid player Kroos admitted he felt Muller would not convince Low to change his mind either. He said the latter remains as committed to speculating about the future of the national set-up as the present. “Muller played a great season. But for the national boss, it is not only the shape of today,” the defender told reporters. Low wants to give space to players like Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, and Kai Havertz. That’s why my senses tell me he won’t look back for his selections.”
Kroos has further weighed in on the future of former Bayer Leverkusen man Havertz, who sealed one of the most significant offseason moves with a move to Chelsea earlier this month. The 21-year-old has become the Blues’ second most valuable purchase to date and looks set to play an integral part in Frank Lampard’s quest for success at Stamford Bridge that term. “Kai is of great quality,” Kroos added. “If he continues like this, it will be difficult to stop him as a player.”
