Thomas Partey injured his hip in the Gunners’ 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace on 4 April and initial scans showed significant injury.

What did Mikel say about Thomas Partey?

The Ghanaian midfielder appears set to miss the remainder of the Gunners’ season, Arteta has confirmed. An Arsenal player injured his hip in the Gunners’ 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace on 4 April and initial scans showed a significant injury. Thomas was hoping he could return for the last few games of the season, but Mikel Arteta admits it looks unlikely now after further evaluations this week.

Speaking ahead of the Gunners’ big game at Southampton on Saturday, Mikel all but confirmed that his £45m player won’t be playing again until next season. Mikel Arteta said that the news they received after another evaluation was not great. According to Arteta, it doesn’t look very positive for Thomas availability this season, but they’ll have to wait and see. The Gunners boss says that Thomas Partey is trying to get back as quickly as possible, but at the moment they are not very optimistic about it.

Others have problems too

The news about Thomas follows from the confirmation that Kieran Tierney has also been ruled out for the remainder of the Gunners’ campaign. Kieran has undergone surgery for a knee problem and is expected to return to full fitness before July. The Arsenal manager admitted that this is not ideal at the moment. According to Arteta, they knew that by the end of the season one of the key elements would be to have a team and as many squads as possible. They have a few issues with him and Takehiro Tomiyasu, but they need to keep competing and doing their best.

Alexandre Lacazette has missed the last couple of training sessions and it is not yet clear if he will be available to face Southampton. The player is believed to have been unwell in recent days, but Mikel hopes he will be available at St Mary’s. Arteta said they will see if Alexandre is available. There is a good chance that this is the case.
