Thomas Tuchel admits he is “devastated” to be leaving Chelsea after a ruthless sack although the club will always hold a “special place” in his heart.
The German coach, Thomas Tuchel was fired after leading Chelsea to Champions League success in 2020 before being quickly replaced by Graham Potter.
Tuchel has now resorted to social media for the first time since the shocking occurrences. The ex-Chelsea coach revealed he planned to continue at Stamford Bridge for a number of years longer.
“This is one of the most painful statements I’ve ever had to write – and one I thought I wouldn’t have to do for a long time.”
“I’m heartbroken that my time at Chelsea is coming to an end”. He said.
“This is a club where I felt both professionally and personally at ease.” Thank you so much to everyone on the staff, the players, and the fans for making me feel so welcome from the start”.
“The pride and joy I felt in helping the team win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will live with me for the rest of my life.” “I am honored to have been a part of this club’s history, and the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”
Tuchel’s dismissal came as a surprise, given that rumors of a contract extension had circulated as recently as August.
The 49-year-old oversaw the Premier League giants during a turbulent era that saw them placed under special measures as a result of sanctions imposed on former owner Roman Abramovich.
Because of the limits imposed by the UK government, Chelsea were unable to sign new contracts with a number of stars, resulting in an exodus during the summer transfer window. Tuchel was entrusted with refilling their defensive options after Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen moved on free transfers.
And, during his first window as owner, Boehly supported his management by authorizing a £200 million spending spree. In reality, Chelsea were making deals up until the deadline, less than a week before he was fired.
Following Tuchel’s departure, Boehly promptly chose Brighton manager Potter as his top choice to replace him, and he signed a five-year contract less than 36 hours later.
“We are overjoyed to welcome Graham to Chelsea.” “He is a proven coach and Premier League innovator who fits our ambition for the Club,” Boehly remarked after Potter’s arrival.
“Not only is he tremendously gifted on the field, but he also possesses qualities and capabilities that transcend beyond the field, which will help Chelsea become a more successful club.” He has had a significant impact at his previous clubs, and we anticipate a similar impact at Chelsea.
“In the coming months and years, we look forward to assisting him, his coaching staff, and the squad in reaching their maximum potential.”
