India’s youngsters Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been called up in the 15-member squad for the five-match T20 series against the West Indies. The two youngsters have shown brilliant performances during the IPL 2023, which gave them their maiden call-ups for the Indian squad. Jaiswal was selected for the tests and ODIs earlier, and now he will also be featured in the T20 format. On the other hand, Tilak has been rewarded for consistently impressive seasons with the Mumbai Indians.
The Veterans will not be playing the format
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will still not be playing the format as India is trying to make a transitional change with the T20s while keeping an eye on Next Year’s World Cup. Hardik Pandya will be leading the squad with deputy Surya Kumar Yadav. The squad will also include Avesh Khan, Sanju Samson, and Ravi Bishnoi, who missed the New Zealand series earlier this year. Those who missed the cut include Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Hooda, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tripathi, and Prithvi Shaw.
These two will be watched out
The two men who will be watched are Jaiswal and Varma in particular, whose performances have continued to rise. The 22-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal had a spectacular season with the Rajasthan Royals, scoring 625 runs in 14 matches, including his record-breaking fastest half century in just 13 balls and later hitting 124 runs with four more half centuries. The youngster’s rise across all formats has made him a definite choice for the future.
On the other hand, Tilak Varma continued his season with Mumbai Indians, scoring 343 runs in 11 matches. The 20-year-old played several crucial innings, including his unbeaten 84 off 46 balls in the opening match of Mumbai Indians and a fast innings of 37 runs in just 17 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Varma’s impressive form and innings led MI skipper Rohit Sharma and former India coach Ravi Shastri to back him for the internationals soon.
