“Tite said that his cycle with the national team would be over, whether or not he wins this World Cup, but now I doubt that he’ll leave if he wins,” the federation’s vice-president Francisco Novelletto told reporters.
The Brazilian FA have the utmost respect for the tactician
The Brazilian football federation are hoping to have a successful 2022 World Cup, but they’re also thinking about the future and have a big decision to make in terms of who’ll be the head coach going forward. Tite already announced in February that he’d leave after the tournament in Qatar, although the Brazilian FA are still determining the possibility of him staying on. “Tite said that his cycle with the national team would be over, whether or not he wins this World Cup, but now I doubt that he’ll leave if he wins,” the federation’s vice-president Francisco Novelletto told reporters. “I’d be ready to tie him down and not let him leave!” Despite these declarations, Tite is expected to step down after the tournament, and the Brazilian FA have the utmost respect for the tactician, so are willing to let him decide.
The candidate for the Brazil team, who has been mentioned in some reports, is Pep Guardiola
Those in charge would like there to be some continuity, given how competitive Brazil have been these past few years, so they don’t want a new coach who’ll bring distractions. Fernando Diniz, Dorival Junior and Abel Ferreira have all been linked, but it’s still being determined who will take over from Tite. Another candidate who has been mentioned in some reports is Pep Guardiola, with it believed that intermediaries discussed a few months ago the possibility of the Catalan taking charge of the Selecao. Apparently, though, the contacts and links go back even further than that. “I speak for myself here and not for the Brazilian FA, but about three years ago, there was a vice president, a colleague, who contacted Guardiola about the Brazilian national team,” Novelletto said. “He was open to it but wants 24 million euros per year.”
“Someone almost had a heart attack when that salary was mentioned in talks about replacing Tite!” It seems, therefore, that Guardiola becoming Brazil coach would simply be too expensive to work.
