Todd Boehly Appoints Himself as Chelsea Sporting Director in the Meantime.
After Chelsea announced Marina Granovskaia’s resignation, Todd Boehly assumed the position of temporary sports director.
As part of the reorganization of their hierarchy, the Blues have revealed that Granovskaia, who managed Chelsea’s hiring under the previous Roman Abramovich, will leave the Stamford Bridge club after ex-chairman Bruce Buck.
In addition to serving as the club’s new chairman, new co-owner Boehly will also serve as Chelsea’s temporary sports director until a permanent successor is found, with manager Thomas Tuchel receiving additional influence.
Granovskaia will still be available to Chelsea until the summer transfer market closes.
She will “remain accessible to Boehly and the club for the remainder of the current transfer window,” the club stated in a statement, “to assist Chelsea in pursuing their objectives, including Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.”
Boehly has been named to Chelsea’s new board together with other co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano of Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter, Hansjorg Wyss, and Jonathan Goldstein.
James Pade, Lord Daniel Finkelstein, and Barbara Charone will also be present.
The club’s three most senior employees, Buck, Granovskaia, and CEO Guy Laurence, all look to be going as Boehly and Clearlake Capital appear ready to put an end to the Roman Abramovich administration.
Buck’s resignation was made official last Monday, while Granovskaia’s was anticipated before the club’s Wednesday statement.
Since the conclusion of their takeover, Boehly and his group have been actively interested and have taken part in transfer discussions.
By Chelsea FC’s illustrious past, Boehly remarked, “As custodians of Chelsea FC, we now begin executing our long-term vision and strategy for the Club, delivering an excellent experience for its passionate, dedicated fans, and continuing to contend for top honors.”
“We are strongly devoted to winning, both on and off the field, working together, side by side. That endeavor has started for us.
