Todd Boehly ‘promises Thomas Tuchel Six new signings and £200m to spend.’
Thomas Tuchel will supposedly have £200 million to spend on recruiting new players this summer, according to reports from new owner Todd Boehly.
Roman Abramovich sold the Stamford Bridge club in the last month after the Russian businessman chose to do so in response to British government sanctions and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The American bought the club from Abramovich.
Boehly now wants to make a statement in his first transfer window as manager and has reportedly promised Tuchel six new players, with Champions League qualifying the minimum goal for next season.
Matthijs de Ligt, Jules Kounde, and Raheem Sterling are among the major targets, with Jonathan Clauss, Ousmane Dembele, Richarlison, and Gabriel Jesus all being mentioned.
According to the article, Tuchel and the new owner have conducted transfer summits as the Blues aim for success in the 2022–23 season.
The trick is essentially working with Tuchel to identify the top players that are now available, a source informed The Telegraph. We want to make sure that our defense is strong.
We have a strong midfield. We don’t have an immediate need for a striker.
The market now offers fair chances to meet the fans’ desire to be competitive, which is fortunate. There are five or six moves that we’re going to try to make because, in my opinion, it’s a combo.
According to reports, Juventus center defender De Ligt won’t extend his contract with the team because the Blues are interested in paying a high price to get the Dutchman.
While France international Clauss, who is now at Lens, is a right-back possibility, Sevilla defender Kounde has been a longtime goal of Chelsea and may transfer to west London.
Further up the field, Everton striker Richarlison has been linked with a transfer away from Goodison Park, while Sterling’s future at Manchester City is still unclear with Chelsea leading the pack of interested teams.
Jesus may leave Manchester City in light of Erling Haaland’s move to the Premier League champions, while Dembele of Barcelona, with whom Tuchel formerly worked at Borussia Dortmund, is apparently also weighing his options.
After the club announced Marina Granovskaia’s resignation, Boehly appointed himself as the club’s interim sports director.
As part of the restructuring of their hierarchy, the Blues have revealed that Granovskaia, who managed Chelsea’s hiring under former owner Abramovich, will leave the Stamford Bridge club in addition to former chairman Bruce Buck.
