Topley and Willey shine as ENG comfortably beat IND by 100-runs in 2nd ODI, level series 1-1

A fine spell of bowling by England left arm pacer Reece Topley saw the hosts comprehensively outplay India by 100 runs in the second ODI at Lord’s on Thursday. It also meant the three match ODI series is level 1-1 with the decider to be played at Old Trafford on Sunday. Chasing 247 runs to win, the visitors were bowled out for 146 runs in 38.5 overs.

Earlier England posted 246 all out in 49 overs with Moeen Ali top scoring for 47 runs. David Willey too contributed with a valuable 41 runs. For India, Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of Indian bowlers with 4/47. Jasprit Bumrah 2/49 and Hardik Pandya 2/28) too chipped in well.

Chasing a modest target of 247, India lost Rohit Sharma for a duck nicking Topley’s delivery. Shikhar Dhawan too struggled to get going as he managed to score only 9 runs from 26 balls. Rishabh Pant did not last long either, as he was caught by Philip Salt off a full toss from Topley. Virat Kohli, who looked good nicked a David Willey delivery to Buttler, reducing India to 31/4.

Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya added 42-runs to get the run chase back on track. But Reece Topley once again came to the fore. He cleaned up Suryakumar to all but end India’s hopes. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja added 29 runs but the former gave away a catch going against Moeen Ali.

India XI: Rohit Sharma (capt), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal
