The Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is “pushing more” for Nagelsmann to take the job

According to a report from Germany, Tottenham Hotspur have been in talks with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann about taking over as the club’s new head coach. While Nagelsmann is said to be interested in the job, no agreement or commitments have been made as of yet. It should be noted that Bayern Munich are reportedly demanding a transfer fee if Nagelsmann is to leave for Tottenham. Florian Plettenberg, a reporter in Germany, has stated that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is “pushing more” for Nagelsmann to take the job. However, Nagelsmann is said to want assurances regarding how much power he would have in regards to transfers if he were to become the head coach.

Plettenberg believes that more talks will follow, and that Nagelsmann wants to take his time before making a final decision. At the same time, it remains unclear who will become Tottenham’s new managing director of football following the resignation of Fabio Paratici last month. According to Sky Sports News, Johannes Spors is among the sporting directors being considered by the north London club. Spors currently serves as a global sporting director for several clubs, including Genoa, Standard Liege, and Melbourne Victory.

Nagelsmann is said to have resented the repeated interviews and requests for information

Previously, Nagelsmann had held talks with Chelsea regarding their managerial vacancy. However, he is no longer under consideration for the position, with Mauricio Pochettino now believed to be the frontrunner for the role. Nagelsmann was never the favorite for the job internally at Chelsea, and friction grew between the two sides as Chelsea officials wanted to carry out a thorough due diligence on all candidates before making a decision. Nagelsmann is said to have resented the repeated interviews and requests for information.

The German coach had reservations about the role himself and sensed that the Blues’ varied shortlist reflected a lack of clarity about the direction they wanted to take. Nagelsmann previously stated that it’s important as a manager to feel that a club believes in you and your methods, and that it appeals to him “to work where the structure is clear, where there are not 20 guys all with an opinion that takes you in different directions.”

Rangnick has suggested that Nagelsmann should go for the Tottenham job

Ralf Rangnick, who mentored Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, has suggested that Nagelsmann should go for the Tottenham job. Rangnick himself was sporting director for the Red Bull franchise of clubs, including Leipzig and Salzburg, from 2012 to 2015 and then again from 2019 to 2020. “I think Tottenham is an exciting club in many ways,” Rangnick said. “They probably have one of the most modern, beautiful stadiums in the world at the moment. They have one of the best training centers that is there at the moment and Daniel Levy, who has been leading the club for many, many years.” Rangnick believes that, although Levy is not a big spender, he knows the football business and would not put himself in the center of the cameras.

He also thinks that if Tottenham really want Nagelsmann, then it would be important for a sporting director to be there to support him. Rangnick says that there is a lot of room for improvement at Tottenham and that it’s not a club where the house expects you to be in the top one or two right away.

Overall, it remains to be seen whether Nagelsmann will ultimately take over as Tottenham’s new head coach. However, it seems clear that he is interested in the job and that Levy is keen to bring him in.
