Tottenham signs Steven Bergwijn for £27m from PSV Eindhoven
Tottenham Hotspur has signed the Netherlands forward Steven Bergwijn for £27m from PSV Eindhoven on a contract that will run until 2025.
Bergwijn had a medical in London on Tuesday as Tottenham looked to add another attacking player. The 22-year-old has played 16 times for PSV in the Dutch Eredivisie this season and scored 5 goals.
Besides, the forward bolster Mourinho’s options in attack with England striker, Harry Kane out with a long-term hamstring injury.
The deal will keep Bergwijn in North London until 2025 and he will wear the NO 23 shirt, previously worn by Christian Eriksen.
Bergwijn came through the PSV ranks and made his first-team debut at 17. He scored 31 goals in 149 appearances for the Dutch Club and won three league titles.
The forward has also earned nine caps for the Dutch national side.
“I think it is an amazing move, an amazing club. Whatever I can bring, I will give it to this club and this team.” Said Bergwijn.
“When I was a young boy I looked up to the coach, of course, Mourinho. And now I play for him.”
“You have to believe in yourself and I know what I can bring to this club and the team. I am good with the ball and I can score.”
“They play good football and that is what I like. To play here is a dream for me. It is an honor. I want to score goals, give assists and win the Champions League.”
“Last season, I loved to see them beat Ajax in the Champions League semi-final.”
Bergwijn played against Tottenham in last season’s Champions League group-stage match between the sides. Spurs won with a 2-1 at Wembley.
Bergwijn becomes Tottenham’s third signing of the January transfer window.
