Tottenham Turns Down The Chance to Sign Paulo Dybala.
Tottenham will pass up the opportunity to recruit former Juventus striker Paulo Dybala because of his £280,000 weekly pay.
Paulo Dybala is leaving Juventus after seven years and has raised the ire of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Manchester United by implying that he was interested in a transfer to the Premier League.
Spurs have balked at the expense of a prospective move, despite his availability on a free transfer, with the 28-year-old asking for roughly £280,000 per week.
Dybala scored 82 goals in 210 league appearances for Juventus, but the Italian club turned down his request for an €8 million net pay and a €2 million bonus — the equivalent of about £373,000 per week — when he requested for a €8 million net salary and a €2 million incentive.
Inter Milan has offered Dybala an offer worth £6 million per year with bonuses — roughly £260,000 per week before taxes — but he is holding out for more.
Inter are also interested in loaning back Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who departed San Siro in a £97.5 million trade last summer.
In order to get a deal done, the Belgian, 29, is prepared to accept a pay reduction from his £325,000-a-week salary.
Tottenham has signed two Juventus players in January: Dejan Kulusevski on a loan and Rodrigo Bentancur on a permanent deal.
Spurs manager Antonio Conte is planning a major overhaul of his team this season after securing a Champions League berth, and has already made one Serie A raid this summer, signing Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.
The Lilywhites are also on the lookout for a new center-back to partner Cristian Romero, as well as a new central midfielder, wing-back, and attacker.
Clement Lenglet of Barcelona has surfaced as a target, as has Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni, but he is apparently dubious about a move to the Premier League.
Spurs are reportedly planning a handful of summer departures, with Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, and Steven Bergwijn among those who might depart.
A £17 million deal for Bergwijn was rejected by Tottenham this week, with Ajax also interested in the winger in the January transfer window.
