Tottenham fans have been kept waiting for some time since their last trophy, but when was the last time they enjoyed lifting a piece of silverware.

A little about the topic

The Spurs are in a rebuilding phase with Conte now at the helm of a club tasked with bringing silverware and trophies to North London. Although Kane has picked up many individual scoring honors for himself, it has been a long time since the Lilivians won their trophy. How long has it been since the Spurs last tasted silverware?

Tottenham’s last trophy

The Spurs’ most recent trophy was the 2008 Carling Cup when they beat the Blues 2-1 in the final at Wembley. It marked the fourth time that the Spurs have been crowned League Cup winners. Ramos’ Spurs team beat the Gunners’ crosstown rivals 6-2 in the semi-finals, earning them a clash against Chelsea. The Gunners defended the trophy champions by beating Arsenal in the 2007 final.

Drogba scored a free kick in the first half to give the Blues a half-time lead, but Berbatov scored a penalty in the 70th minute from Bridge’s penalty to equalize. Woodgate then netted three minutes into extra time after converting a free kick taken by Jenas, which conjured victory.

It was Tottenham’s first trophy in nine years and was especially important. With his help, they secured qualification for the next season’s UEFA Cup, something they failed to do in their PL campaign when they finished 11th in the table. The 2008 Carling Cup Final was the first League Cup Final to be played at the newly built Wembley Stadium, having played the previous final at the Cardiff Millennium Stadium.

Although spurs Pochettino has been noted as one of the PL’s strongest sides in recent years, he has failed to win silverware in the Argentine’s five years at the club. Despite the scoring prowess of striker Kane, who won two Premier League golden boots, he has yet to lift the trophy with Tottenham. The Lilivites announced a bid for the PL title in 2015-16 and spent most of the season as frontline players but eventually lost the league to champions Leicester City.

The North Londoners came close to the silverware once again in 2019 when they reached the Champions League final in Madrid against PL rivals Liverpool but ended up losing 2-0. They put together an incredible semi-final comeback against Ajax which saw them win the tie 3-3 on away goals after losing the first leg 1-0 at home, but came up short in the final. Salah’s penalty for the Reds in the second minute, coupled with an 87th minute goal by Origi’s, ensured that the Spurs would be forced to wait out their trophy drought a bit longer.
