Trevor Chalobah, 22, has signed a contract with Chelsea until 2026.

A little about Trevor Chalobah?

The English defender made his way through the ranks of Chelsea academy before graduating from the top squad in 2018, and has since had to be patient in his pursuit of regular first team opportunities. Trevor Chalobah rented out periods in Ipswich, Huddersfield Town and Lorient before finally being handed a Premier League debut for the Blues against Crystal Palace in August and has now been rewarded with fresh terms, earning a regular seat with Tuchel’s.

What did Trevor Chalobah say?

Trevor expressed his delight after Thursday’s announcement, telling Chelsea’s official website that it was quite surreal. It is a dream for Trevor Chalobah to sign a new long-term contract for his club and hopefully the dream will continue. It was an incredible start to the season and something Trevor Chalobah never expected, but it just goes to show that the hard work he put into the loans has paid off. According to Trevor Chalobah, he tried to impress the manager in the preseason and then take that into the games, so that was good and consistency is now the key to keeping those high levels.

Chelsea director Granovskaia added that seeing Chalobah join many of their fellow Academy alumni on the men’s first team is something they are extremely proud of as a Club. When Trevor Chalobah scored in the first game of the Premier League season, it was an emotional moment for everyone involved in getting him to that point. Chalobah’s performances in the opening months of the season, as well as his attitude and professionalism, impressed all of them and they are very excited to be able to reward Chalobah’s progress with this new long-term contract.

Chalobah will argue for a place again

Trevor celebrated his 3-0 debut against Palace and has since played nine more matches in all competitions in Chelsea’s last campaign. Trevor Chalobah also scored a 3-1 win over Southampton last month, with the talented defender earning a permanent spot in England’s U21 set up as a result of his exploits at club level. Trevor will once again vie for a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI when the Blues take on Burnley this weekend.
