Manchester United

After making a winning start to life as manager of Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick will likely rotate his squad for this UEFA Champions League fixture considering his side are already through to the Round of 16 as Group F winners. Unbeaten in Europe since losing on matchday one to Young Boys, United got there the hard way, conceding first in three of those following games. As Sunday’s 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace was their first clean sheet at Old Trafford since April, United will be hoping to avoid needing another comeback here. However, they’ve not produced a UEFA Champions League shutout at this famous stadium since October 2020, and subsequently, their last five home UEFA Champions League games have featured an average of 4.4 goals per game, so an entertaining affair can’t be ruled out.

Young Boys

Young Boys failed to kick on from that shock 2-1 H2H win and the best they can hope for is dropping down into the Europa League, but to do so they must win here and hope Villarreal beat Atalanta. They may throw caution to the wind then, but with just one win from their last eight competitive matches they’re up against it. Ominously, they’ve never won a UEFA Champions League group game away from home, and failed to score in both defeats this term. Having won just twice against English opponents anywhere, Young Boys are also winless in four visits to England, three of which saw them trail at half-time.

United’s Mason Greenwood has netted three of his four goals this term after the 50th minute, while for Young Boys, Wilfried Kanga has scored three times across their last two fixtures, twice after the 80th minute. Manchester United have scored an average of 1.5 goals per game after the 70th minute across their last four UEFA Champions League matches.
