As far as the elite level of continental football is concerned, Sevilla appear to save their best football for the road, going undefeated in eight straight UEFA Champions League away trips since the 2017/18 Round of 16.

RB Salzburg

Amid a host of permutations in Group G, one thing is clear – the winner of this final UEFA Champions League group stage clash between Salzburg and Sevilla will advance to the knockout stages. After winning both of their two previous home games during this group stage, the advantage rests with the Austrians, who prepared for this clash with another home league victory to maintain their near-perfect home record in all 2021/22 competitions. Though Salzburg were declared warm favourites on all 12 of those occasions, it remains to be seen how they’ll rise to the additional challenge offered by Sevilla, having lost three of their last four games at home to Spanish opposition.

Sevilla

Sevilla’s only win of this edition kept them in the hunt to advance from the group stage of any UEFA competition for a sixth consecutive season. As far as the elite level of continental football is concerned, Sevilla appear to save their best football for the road, going undefeated in eight straight UEFA Champions League away trips since the 2017/18 Round of 16. Impressively, Real Madrid remain the only club to have scored against Sevilla across their last four games in all tournaments. Additionally, when including a Copa del Rey extra time result, all but one of their last eight competitive victories have been accompanied by a clean sheet.

Highly-rated teenager Karim Adeyemi is being courted by several big European clubs, and has scored the opener in five of his last seven goalscoring games for Salzburg. After his matchwinner against Villarreal, Lucas Ocampos has scored Sevilla’s first or only goal in four of his last seven games in all competitions. Neither team has lost a UEFA Champions League match by a 2 goal margin in the 2021 calendar year.
