Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has officially announced his retirement from T20 Internationals after leading his team to victory in the final of the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup against South Africa. Kohli’s stellar performance in his last T20I, where he scored 76 runs off 59 balls, earned him the Player of the Match award and helped India secure its second World T20 title.

In a post-match presentation, Kohli expressed his satisfaction with achieving his goal of winning the T20 World Cup and confirmed that this was his final T20 game playing for India. He emphasized the importance of passing the torch to the next generation of players to take the T20 game forward.

Having made his T20I debut in June 2010, Kohli played a total of 125 matches for India in the format, amassing 4188 runs with one century and 38 half-centuries to his name. He also claimed two Player of the Tournament awards in the T20 World Cups of 2014 and 2016. Kohli will retire as the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is, behind his teammate Rohit Sharma.
