India captain Rohit Sharma defended Kohli on his form as soon as a journalist started a question on Virat Kohli. Kohli’s form has been a debatable issue for the past two years. Some have defended his stay in the team and some said that he should be out of the team.

In the England vs India match on Thursday, Kohli looked to show his mettle but after a good start, he was dismissed for 16 runs in 25 balls.

After being ruled out of the first ODI on Tuesday due to a groin strain, Kohli took a sort of batting fitness test yesterday morning and confirmed his readiness to India coach Rahul Dravid. Around an hour before India arrived at Lord’s, the BCCI released the Indian squad for the T20I series starting in the West Indies in late July, with Virat Kohli missing out. The BCCI did not specify whether he was rested or dropped due to out-of-form.

After India’s two wickets fell early, Virat Kohli came to bat in the third over. He hit three fours in his short innings, he looked quite cool and thought it was his day. But in the twelfth over, David Willey came to bowl and bowled the second ball, angling away delivery, on which Virat Kohli did not move and he threw the bat towards the ball. The ball touched the fine edge of the bat and went into the gloves of Jos Buttler.

Indian ODI team jumps in ICCC rankings, leaves Pakistan behind

When asked whether Kohli needs the support of the team in this difficult period or should he be left alone behind such a successful and successful career, Rohit felt that there was no need for debate in the first place.

“He [Kohli] has played many matches. He has been playing for so many years. He is such a great batsman so he doesn’t need any assurances,” Rohit told the media briefing. “I pointed this out in my last press conference as well: Form goes up and down, it’s part and parcel of any cricketer’s career. So, a player like him, who plays for so many years, who scored so many runs For someone who has won so many matches, he only needs one or two good innings (to bounce back). That’s my thinking and I’m sure everyone who follows cricket will think so.”

This is the second time that Rohit has supported Kohli during the white-ball segment of the England tour. Rohit admitted that Kohli is going through a ‘recession’ but added that the Indian team management still has full faith in him.
