Virender Sehwag: Former India batsman Virender Sehwag believes that Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy has been better than anyone else in Indian cricket.
Also, the former batsman said that Virat Kohli may have had a good record as a captain, but he has not been able to make a team like Ganguly. Recently there was a big dispute between Virat Kohli and BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly.
Sehwag’s big statement about Kohli
Sehwag said on Home of Heroes Sports18, ‘Sourav Ganguly made a new team, always supported new players. I suspect that hardly Kohli has done this during his tenure.
The two-time World Cup winner said that during Kohli’s captaincy for 2-3 years, the practice was to change the team after almost every Test, whether they won or lost. Sehwag further said, ‘In my opinion the number 1 captain is the one who builds a team and gives confidence to his players. He (Kohli) supported some players, did not support some.
Pant can open- Sehwag
Asked whether Rishabh Pant had a career similar to his with limited success in ODIs and T20s, Sehwag seemed to agree and said that Pant would be more successful if he played freely in limited overs cricket. Earlier this year, when Pant came out to open in the ODI against West Indies, the cricket fans were stunned. He scored 18 runs in 34 balls, but India coach Rahul Dravid knew what he was doing.
This player can do amazing
Sehwag also picked Prithvi Shaw as a player to look forward to. Sehwag said, ‘He is the kind of player who can do well in Test cricket. The front team will have to think whether 400 runs will be enough with Shaw and Pant. Sehwag claimed, ‘Shaw and Pant can help India rule Test cricket and win the World Test Championship.’
