Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk has argued that the player’s well-being is not considered in the UK after the latest round of criticism faced by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

What did Virgil van Dijk say?

This was not the start of the season that the Reds expected or wanted. While the vast majority of the squad has fallen off the pace, English player Trent Alexander-Arnold has often been singled out for his defensive shortcomings and the man who plays alongside him believes the 23-year-old is the victim of unfair criticism.

The Dutch national team player said that it is very good for everyone here to praise the player very high to the sky and let him fall as hard as possible. According to Virgil van Dijk, this is something they, as players, have to deal with. They forget about the welfare of the players, they forget about it and everyone is talking about how they should all take it.

For Trent Alexander-Arnold, just to keep working – not just him, but the other players – and deal with it and show a reaction is what they need, all of them. Van Dijk says he thinks it’s important for them to bring him back as a manager, club and fans.

A little about Trent Alexander-Arnold

While Trent has been criticized by many, he has also received an equal amount of praise from other corners of the media who, like Virgil, feel he is being unfairly targeted. His expulsion from Southgate’s English squad is considered by many to be one of the great mistakes the Three Lions boss made.

Having found a net with a brilliant free kick against the Rangers, the youngster will hope he can use it to build some momentum over the next few weeks. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s chances of starting for England in the World Cup look slim, but an injury or two could easily see him enter the starting XI in Qatar.
