South Group’s top team Surrey registered six wins from seven matches in this season’s Vitality Blast with a win over rival Middlesex at Lord’s. Jason Roy scored 81 off 45 balls and Jamie Overton’s 27-run lower-order cameo helped Surrey reach 208-7.

Stephen Eskinazi and Max Holden steered Middlesex to 76-0 in the first six overs, but Middlesex lost two crucial wickets in the space of six balls to give Surrey a chance to make a comeback. England pacer Chris Jordan finished his figure with 4-31 and Middlesex could only manage 188 runs in 20 overs.

England opener Roy, who took a break from cricket at the start of the Vitality Blast, only showed glimpses of his best form since his return at the start of the tournament.

But he displayed all his international level with a mix of sweet timing and flat hitting in the stands to score a half-century in 24 balls.

The 31-year-old was eventually bowled in the 16th over by an inside edge off Martin Andersson but some fast bowlers from Sunil Narine, Overton and Chris Jordan ensured that Surrey could touch 200. Surrey were unable to rein in Eskinazzi and Holden inside the powerplay as the pair created a ruckus. A moment of magic from West Indian spinner Naren eventually dodged Eskinazi.

England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan was soon dismissed cheaply as the required run-rate was climbing up, and once Jordan broke the middle order, only Chris Green (46 not out) finished the game after a boundary.

After scoring 50 off 30 balls in the Steelbacks’ 220-3, Cobb bagged a career-best 5-25 to bowl Worcestershire for 147.

Northamptonshire Steelbacks opener Chris Lynn scored his second century of the competition. His unbeaten knock of 113 runs in 57 balls registered a big win over North Group’s bottom side Worcestershire Rapids. Lynn has so far scored 379 runs in this Vitality Blast at an average of around 95 as he equaled his best 20-over score.

In the derby, home captain Shan Masood scored 73 off just 32 balls to seal a six-wicket win over East Midlands rivals Leicestershire. Fox had a competitive 181-6, Aaron Lillee top-scoring with 67, but Pakistan opener Masood hit 11 fours and a six to put the Falcons on their way to victory.

Hampshire registered three consecutive wins with a 32-run victory over the Essex Eagles. The May tongue team scored 155-6 at the Ageas Bowl, with captain James Vince top-scoring with 44 and young Toby Albert providing a late cameo with 24 . Essex never looked in line to chase the score as pacer James Fuller acted with 4-30 and the Eagles were bowled out for 123 in the final over.

With rain reduced to 10 overs in a game at Bristol, Somerset chasing a revised target of 112 Roulof van der Merwe’s sensational 15-ball 48 turned the match one-sided. The visitors were heading for a 55-7 defeat after six overs, but all-rounder Van der Merwe hit four fours and four sixes to take Somerset to 114-7 with three balls to spare.
