Waqar Younis appointed as Advisor to PCB Chairman
Former Pakistan captain and coach, Waqar Younis, has been named as an Advisor to the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The legendary fast bowler, with 87 Tests and 262 ODIs under his belt, will oversee cricket affairs for the board, starting from August 1.
Responsibilities and Role
Waqar will be responsible for managing both the red-ball and white-ball national teams, along with coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie. He will also coordinate with the selection committee to ensure fair and transparent player selections.
Furthermore, Waqar will address any matters assigned by the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, related to domestic cricket, high-performance centers, coaches, and game development. The goal is to allow the chairman to focus on governance, infrastructure, and commercial agreements.
Challenges and Expectations
Waqar’s appointment comes at a time when Pakistan cricket is facing public criticism for its recent poor performance. With the upcoming cricket season starting in August, the PCB believes an experienced individual like Waqar, who understands the language of cricketers, is essential to make the right decisions for the team.
This move is seen as an effort to strengthen the cricketing structure in Pakistan and ensure the team’s success in future tournaments, including the upcoming Champions Trophy and the tour of New Zealand.
Overall, Waqar’s appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective and strategic direction to Pakistan cricket, helping the team navigate its way back to success on the international stage.
