Steve Smith appointed as captain of the Washington Freedom cricket team, with Ricky Ponting as coach. The team reached the knockouts last season, led by standout performances from players like Matthew Short, Saurabh Netravalkar, and Adries Gous.

Despite a tough start in their first game against Seattle Orcas, the Freedom bounced back with a three-game winning streak, thanks to individual brilliance from both local and international players. Netravalkar’s impressive spell of 6 for 9 against San Francisco Unicorns caught the eye, while marquee signings like Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Travis Head bring star power to the team’s batting lineup.

With a mix of international T20 specialists like Lockie Ferguson and Andrew Tye, along with domestic talents like Gous and Netravalkar, the Freedom have built a formidable squad for the upcoming season. Retaining players like Obus Pienaar and introducing new faces like Ian Holland and Lahiru Milantha adds depth to the team’s roster.

The probable XI for the Freedom includes Gous, Smith, Head, Ravindra, Maxwell, Pienaar, Jansen, Ferguson, Netravalkar, Aponso/Mohammad, and Netravalkar. With a balanced squad and strong leadership, the Washington Freedom are gearing up for another exciting season in the MLC.
